BRUNATE & FARO VOLTIANO This little town is easily reached from Como by a scenic historic funicular. A pleasant walk from the station leads up to the 29-meter-high Faro Voltiano, which was built in 1927 to honor the famous scientist Alessandro Volta. Climbing the spiral staircase offers a magnificent view of the entire lake and the surrounding peaks.

MUSEO DELLA BARCA LARIANA Set in a grand 19th-century silk mill in Pianello del Lario, this exceptional museum holds a globally unique collection of maritime history. It features over 400 historic vessels, ranging from traditional fishing and smuggling boats to elegant Riva wooden yachts, and even the world's oldest surviving Venetian gondola.
TEMPIO VOLTIANO Dedicated as well to the local inventor, Alessandro Volta, this museum is located in a beautiful neoclassical building on the waterfront in Como, built in 1927 to honor the centenary of his death. Inside, you will find a fascinating collection of scientific instruments, original documents, and the very first electrical battery, known as the voltaic pile.
MILITARY FORT MONTECCHIO NORD In this best-preserved First World War fortress in Europe, you will see four massive French cannons, which remain fully functional inside rotating armored turrets to this day. The site offers fascinating underground tunnels, soldiers' quarters, and breathtaking views of the lake.
MOTO GUZZZI MUSEO Housed in Mandello del Lario, the museum is housed in the historic factory where this legendary brand with the eagle symbol was born in 1921. The collection features over 150 historic motorcycles, racing bikes, and unique prototypes. The ultimate highlight is looking into the original 1950 wind tunnel, which was the first in the world built for testing motorcycles.
SANTUARIO DELLA MADONNA The significant building of the Franciscan monastery in the town of Dongo houses not only a collection of minerals from all over the world, but also a valuable library of ancient books. In the adjacent Church of Santa Maria delle Lacrime, there are two remarkable wooden sculptures depicting the Crucifixion and the Last Supper.
CASTELLO DI VEZIO Towering above Varenna, this thousand-year-old fortress with a stone tower and a drawbridge has been guarding the lake since the early Middle Ages.
